The Gesualdo Bufalino Foundation is located in Comiso, in Piazza delle Erbe, in the seat of the ancient Casmeneo Market (1867): a neoclassical building, with an elegant porch, where Bufalino himself, daily, loved to spend a few hours of the morning walking and talking with your closest friends.
Established in 1999 by the Municipality of Comiso with the partnership of Giovanna Leggio Bufalino, the writer's wife, the Foundation is managed by a board of directors and makes use of the contribution of a scientific committee. The mission of the Foundation is to promote the figure and work of Gesualdo Bufalino through the organization of conferences, seminars, readings, exhibitions and other cultural and literary initiatives.
In the premises of the Foundation there is the "Gesualdo Bufalino Fund" which is made up of the handwritten and typed papers of the Comisian writer, correspondence, his private library, a 10,000 book collection, largely of fiction and literary non-fiction, from full body of his works in various Italian and foreign editions, from a small newspaper library, from a video library and a precious collection of records that testify Bufalino's great passion for cinema and music. A final and significant documentary section of the archive is represented by the writer's Italian and foreign critical fortune, interviews and his journalistic collaborations.
Of the various bibliographic repertoires, continuously updated, both paper and digital support are available. In the study room there is also a section dedicated to degree and doctoral theses on the figure and work of the writer. An online catalog integrated into the Provincial Archival Library System of Ragusa is available for consultation of the Fund's material.
